This course aims to give the candidate an in-depth understanding of Scotch Whisky. Candidates will explore the history and business of Scotch whisky, as well as its legal requirements, before learning the whole production process from raw materials to bottling. Tutored tasting sessions will teach candidates how to run a sensory analysis of Scotch whisky, linking aromas and structure to production and maturation processes. The course is ideal for enthusiasts looking to further their knowledge, and industry members looking to further their careers as a stepping stone to the prestigious Diploma in Single Malt Whisky.

This is a four session hybrid course, approximately 2.5 hours per session, with a 1-hour in-person examination at the end of the final session. Two online sessions will develop candidates’ historical and theoretical knowledge, while two in-person sessions will use sensory analysis of tasting samples to underpin production and maturation methods.

Successful candidates will receive a digital Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accredited certificate of completion and lapel pin.
