Embark on a voyage through the exciting new category of American single malt whiskey with EWA’s comprehensive course created in partnership with the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission (ASMWC).
This course is your gateway to mastering the craft roots and innovative techniques at the heart of American single malt whiskey production. Candidates will explore the creation of the category and its legal requirements, before learning the whole production process from raw materials to bottling. Tutored tasting sessions will teach candidates how to run a sensory analysis of American Single Malt whiskey, linking aromas and structure to production and maturation processes. The course is ideal for enthusiasts looking to further their knowledge, and industry members looking to further their careers in this exciting new category.
Hybrid Course: 2 sessions
An introductory 2.5-hour online Zoom session to develop historical and theoretical knowledge.
An immersive 6.5 hour classroom experience (at Common House in Richmond, VA) where we will use sensory analysis of tasting samples and raw materials to explore production and maturation methods.
50 question multiple-choice exam administered during the final hour of the second in-person session.
Successful candidates will receive a digital Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accredited certificate of completion and lapel pin.
