Who is this program for?

  • The Spanish Wine Scholar Program covers Spanish wine law, grape varieties, viticulture, winemaking and all of the Spanish wine regions. This core body of knowledge is important whether you sell wine, buy wine or teach about wine.

  • The SWS program allows wine professionals to set themselves apart from their peers by specializing in the wines of Spain.

  • It is a great resource and supplement for students of wine moving toward advanced general wine study programs such as WSET Diploma, Master of Wine program, Court of Master Sommeliers’ Advanced Sommelier (and up) or Certified Wine Educator.

  • While not a pre-requisite, we recommend that students successfully complete either Spanish Wine Essentials, or at least the lower-level course from one of the above organizations before entering the SWS program.

What’s included:

  • The 315-page full-color Spanish Wine Scholar study manual, plus access to the digital e-book.

  • 3 month course, including:

    • 1-hour live course introduction webinar.

    • Four 4-hour in person tasting and review sessions.

    • 1-hour exam review webinar.

    • 1-hour in-person exam.

  • 1-year access to the Spanish Wine Scholar online study materials for class preparation and review 

  • Registration for the Spanish Wine Scholar Exam, in person at VAWSA in Richmond, VA. The exam is given in multiple-choice format with 100 questions covering all of the wine regions of Spain. Passing score is 75.
