This course provides an in-depth understanding of Scotch whisky that is ideal for professionals in the beverage industry, or enthusiasts who are eager to improve their knowledge of the category.

Candidates will explore the history and business of Scotch whisky and its legal requirements, before learning the production process from raw materials to bottling. Tutored tasting sessions will teach candidates how to run a sensory analysis of Scotch whisky, linking aromas and structure to production and maturation processes.

Successful candidates will receive a digital Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accredited certificate of completion and lapel pin.

Hybrid Course: 3 sessions

• An introductory 2-hour online Zoom session to develop historical and theoretical knowledge.

• Two 3-hour in-person sessions (at Kitchen Classroom in Henrico, VA) will use sensory analysis of tasting samples to underpin production and maturation methods.

• 50 question multiple-choice exam administered during the final hour of the second in-person session.
