An advanced qualification designed to give a thorough understanding of the factors that account for the style, quality and price of the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world. The qualification will assist those who are required to make professional evaluations of wines, providing the in-depth product knowledge required to underpin job skills and competencies.

Successful candidates will be able to describe the characteristics of the principal wines of the world and give information on the key factors influencing style, quality and price. They will consequently be in a position to advise management, to answer customer queries authoritatively, and to make informed selections of wines in a variety of situations.

Prerequisites

  • Candidates must hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, or be able to demonstrate a comparable level of knowledge.

  • Candidates must be at least 21 years of age to participate.

Course Structure

  • 10 sessions, plus an in-person Theory and Tasting exam.

  • Weekly live instruction and tasting via webinar from 6 - 9pm.

Exam Details

  • In-person, 2.75 hour exam at our office in downtown Richmond.

  • Candidates who fail a qualification will be allowed to resit the exam until successful. The fee for each resit attempt is $240 Full / $125 Tasting / $165 Theory

  • Students with disabilities or documented special educational needs may apply for reasonable adjustments for either RI or paper exams. To apply for reasonable adjustment, contact tracy@vawsa.com to confidentially discuss options before registering for a course.

  • Candidates must sit the exam within 1 year of the end date of their course. at the time of an already scheduled Level 3 course exam. Extensions beyond that time will incur a $140 deferral fee.

  • Should WSET update course materials before a student sits their initial exam attempt, candidates will be required to retake the course with the new curriculum.

  • No individual exam dates are offered.

  • 64 wine samples (50mL) bottled and shipped** to candidates by E-Tasting.

    • **E-tasting cannot ship samples to: AL, AK, AR, HI, KY, MI, MS, NH, ND, SD, UT, or outside of the Continental US..

  • Ten 3-hour live instruction and tasting sessions.

  • Weekly tasting and written theory assignments to support exam success.

  • Successful candidates will receive a WSET digital certificate and lapel pin.
